Relocation of Drop Box from Queen Mary Hospital Complex to Block T

We are excited to announce that a new sequencing sample collection box has been installed at 7/F Lift Lobby, Dept. of Pathology (next to Lift 5 & 6), Block T, Queen Mary Hospital.

Daily sample pick-up at 3 pm will begin at Block T on 23-APR-2018.

Simple. Fill in request form, drop-off samples and we will do the rest.
Convenient. No more walking up and down the hill. You can save commute time.

Fast. Get your sequencing results in 2-4 working days.

Remember to drop-off your samples before 3pm to ensure same day pick-up. Do NOT submit samples after 3pm on Fridays, Saturdays and the day before holidays.

Single Cell RNA service (10X Genomics) at CGS

We are pleased to launch a new platform service single cell RNA sequencing (NGS) at Centre for Genomic Sciences using Chromium Single Cell Controller.

This instrument encapsulates single cells from a cell suspension into vesicles containing gel beads known as Gel Beads in Emulsions (GEM). Transcripts will be released from cells and bind to the beads, followed by reverse transcription and library preparation to generate a pool of cDNA libraries.

Libraries generated are compatible with Illumina sequencers. Transcripts will be identified by their 3’ sequences, while all cDNA generated from the same cell will share a common barcode.

Applications:

  • Single-cell gene expression profiling of hundreds to thousands of single cells: starting with cell suspension all the way to next-generation sequencing. The service is available now!
  • Single-cell immune profiling (e.g. V(D)J transcript). The service is coming soon.

Advantage:

  • Encapsulate and sequence transcripts of 500 – 10,000 individual cells per sample
  • Prepare up to 8 samples per run (4 samples per run for optimal results).
  • Per sample price is around HK$ 15,000 to HK$ 20,000, depending on sample number and other factors. The price covers cell encapsulation to library preparation, while the sequencing cost is NOT included.
  • Free software packages available for data analysis and visualization.

A New High Performance Computing Cluster has been installed at the CGS-HPCF and is ready for use! The new computing cluster has some exciting features such as high end computing nodes, a more efficient job scheduler, easier way to use and manage software with multiple versions, ready to use genome references and more.

Long-read sequencing service (PacBio Sequel System) at CGS

We are pleased to launch a new platform service for long-read sequencing (third-generation sequencing) at Centre for Genomic Sciences using PacBio SequelTM System.

Sequel System, the latest PacBio sequencer, is based on Single Molecule, Real-Time (SMRT) Sequencing technology. Sequel System SMRT Cells typically generate ~365,000 reads each, half of read lengths are more than 20 kb. Per cell sequencing output is about 7 Gb with 10-hour movie, 2.0 chemistry. Sequel System is ideal for rapid and cost-effective de novo genome assembly, structural variation analysis, gene annotation, targeted analysis, and much more.
