Dr. Cheung's research interest is focused on personalized medicine through integrative analysis of genomic and clinical data, with particular focus on pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics.

My research works involve in several areas, including molecular genetics and genomics, genetic epidemiology, and clinical epidemiology.

(1) Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics
Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) have a tremendous cost for the individual and society. ADRs are among the leading causes of death in many countries, and its associated costs are huge. Hence, we are interested in pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomic study of ADRs. It is known that genetic variants can interact to perturb gene network, biochemical pathways and receptor response that can then lead to ADRs. Integrative omics approach is a novel and critical approach in biomedical research. Using this approach, we aim to identify molecular network features that can categorise disease susceptibility and drug responses, and to predict, validate, and implement biomarker signatures for monitoring drug mechanism of action, drug efficacy, and toxicities.

(2) Molecular genetics and genomics
Based on my previous research experience in epigenomics and machine learning, I am interested in studying gene expression regulation through integrative genetic, genomic, and epigenomic profilings.

(3) Genetic epidemiology and clinical epidemiology
Findings from genetic epidemiology and clinical epidemiology are important in personalised medicine development. Currently, I am working on several on-going projects related to endocrine and cardiometabolic diseases.
