From academic research to drug development and production, the study of biomolecular interactions and stability have become integral components of modern biological research. Functional characterization combined with structural analysis has greatly expanded our abilities to study and understand the dynamic interactions between molecules that drive and regulate biological processes and responses. Biacore systems base their direct binding measurements on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) to provide information-rich data on kinetics and affinity of interactions. Meanwhile, Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) systems from MicroCal, now part of GE Healthcare, measure binding and stability data by directly measuring heat changes during a biomolecular binding event.
