QuantiGene was developed based on branched DNA technology, which is approved by FDA for diagnosis of HIV and HCV. QuantiGene delivers sensitivity comparable to real-time PCR along with better accuracy and precision, as validated in the Microarray Quality Control Project. mRNA level can be determined directly from source materials without the need to purify RNA, eliminating many time consuming and error prone steps associated with RT and PCR-based methods. It has been proven to work reproducibility in blood and formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues. Up to 36 genes can be multiplexed in a single reaction on the suspension array system based on the Luminex xMAP technology. The use of multiple housekeeping genes ensures more reliable normalization. The GRC hosted the Bio-Plex system which has been set-up to run QuantiGene assay and is readily available as CORE service. On site demonstration data from the GRC will be shared and discussed.
