Part 1:

High Resolution Melting – a cost effective technology for the analysis of genetic variations

Abstract:

High-resolution melting (HRM) analysis is a novel technique that characterizes double-stranded PCR products based on their dissociation (melting) behavior as they transition from double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) to single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) with increasing temperature. Previously unknown and even complex sequence variations can be readily detected and characterized in an easy and straightforward way. HRM technology allows rapid and cost-effective characterization of DNA samples in emerging and challenging applications such as reliable SNP genotyping, mutation scanning, species identification, and DNA methylation analysis. In this seminar you will learn about the principles of HRM technology as well as the critical success factors for HRM application such as the right reaction chemistry and assay design or the best choice of template quality and amount. Examples will be given how innovative HRM instrumentation and software can be employed to exploit the full power of HRM.

Pyrosequencing - New Standard in Epigenetic & Genetic Studies

Abstract:

Pyrosequencing analysis is a novel technique for the rapid and quantitative sequencing in epigenetic and genetic studies. Often confused with Sangar Sequencing, Pyrosequencing delivers not only the sequence data for the target region, but also precise quantitative analysis of the occurrence of allelic variation and DNA methylation status. Pyrosequencing is the “Gold Standard” for epigenetics studies able to provide quantitative data for individual methylation sites and average methylation status. Pyrosequencing delivers results in hours not days. In this seminar you will learn about the principles of Pyrosequencing technology as well as the critical success factors for Pyrosequencing. Examples will be given how the Pyrosequencing instruments and software can be employed to exploit the full power of Pyrosequencing.
