Abstract:

In recent years significant advances have been made in the use of label-free technologies within life science research. Label-free technologies, such as MicroCalTM and BiacoreTM, have made it possible to better understand bio-molecular interactions in general, but also truly revolutionized protein structure-function studies, antibody characterization and assessment of intramolecular protein stability.

Detection and analysis of biomolecular interactions using ultrasensitive microcalorimetry is widely applicable in life sciences. Stability of a whole range of biological systems can also be assessed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), which directly measures heat changes during a controlled increase or decrease in temperature. Combined with other information-rich orthogonal assays, such as SPR, it enables researchers to better understand the mechanisms the regulate protein interactions and stability.
