Abstract:

Illumina’s BeadArray Technology is based on 3-micron silica beads that self assemble in microwells on planar silica slides. Each bead is covered with hundreds of thousands of copies of a specific oligonucleotide that act as the capture sequences in one of Illumina’s assays. BeadArray technology is utilized in Illumina's iScan System for a broad range of DNA and RNA analysis applications.

With a high signal-to-noise ratio, high sensitivity, low limit of detection, and broad dynamic range, Illumina iScan system produces exceptional data quality for use in any biomarker screening or validation study. The high call rates, >99% achieved with the Infinium assay, enable powerful genomewide association studies and high-resolution CNV analysis to accurately detect even single copy number changes. In addition, this system can be used for fast, accurate screening in agrigenomics and for validating complex disease studies. Methylation and gene expression profiling also benefit from the sensitive measurement and wide dynamic range.
