Abstract:

With the advance in next generation sequencing technologies, the field of genomics is growing rapidly and entering a phase of wide application in society. In the next few years it is likely that genome sequencing will be increasingly used in diverse applications such as cancer diagnosis and differential treatment, prenatal screening for mendelian disorders, food production, infectious disease treatment, and many other. This gives rise to the problem of computation, storage, and sharing on massive genomic datasets, using a rapidly growing collection of academic and commercial bioinformatics tools and software systems. I will present DNAnexus, a cloud-based platform whose goal is to facilitate analysis, sharing and collaboration on genomic data. DNAnexus is designed to be a secure, massively scalable and versatile platform connecting genomic data producers, users, and bioinformatics tools developers in a genomic analysis ecosystem. It is compliant with several protocols such as HIPAA and CLIA, allowing use in clinical applications. It allows users to share their data, software programs, and pipelines with collaborators or with the entire DNAnexus community.
