Proteomics has emerged as powerful biomedical research tool in recent years with the help of high resolution orbitrap mass spectrometry instrument and new sample preparation techniques. In this seminar, we will introduce new development of Thermofisher UPLC/HPLC system and advanced multiplexed quantitation on Orbitrap™ platforms. Furthermore, we will also present model workflows combining discovery studies with targeted studies to interrogate mechanism behind biological phenotypes. Topic of current discovery quantitative proteomics methods will focus primarily on Tandem Mass Tag (TMT) based isobaric labeling method and its application. Meanwhile, an on-going project combining IP and MS methodologies will also be presented to illustrate using targeted workflows to further understand the biology behind biomarker leads revealed during the discovery phase. This IP-MS workflow was optimized to be fully compatible with MS and the results were compared to standard methodologies to demonstrate its effectiveness.

About the speakers:

Ms Yan Jin, Application Manager
Yan Jin, LCMS Application Manager in Thermofisher. Jin’s team has about 20 workers, with responsibilities to develop LC and MS methods for customers of Thermofisher. The main work of Jin’s team is helping their customers deal with LC and MS problems as well as improving the performance of Thermofisher’s products. Customers can get helps from her team before they buy LC products from Thermofisher as well as after that. Yan Jin obtained her MS from East China University of Science and Technology in 1995. Her major is analytical chemistry. After she graduated from East China University of Science and Technology, she joined the institute of Shanghai Hehuang White Cat Company Limited. When Jin worked for White Cat, she has authored eight peer-reviewed journal articles on various subjects such as Chinese Journal of Chromatography, Journal of Mass Spectrometry, Chemical World, and China Surfactant Detergent & Cosmetics. Two of Jin’s manuscripts were collected by American Chemical Abstracts. Jin joined Waters Corporation (Shang Hai) in 2003, with a focus at the application of LC on food safety. Then in 2011, she joined Thermofisher Scientific (China) Co.,Ltd.

Dr Zhihao Yu, Application Scientist
Dr Zhihao Yu is currently an Application Scientist in Thermo Fisher Scientific providing technical support for all protein biology reagent products with a focus on sample preparation and quantitative proteomics. He received his PhD in Biochemistry from University of California, Davis and studied proteomics afterwards during his post-doctoral research at University of California, Davis and Cleveland Clinic.

Mr Xiaojun Ding, Application Engineer
Mr Xiaojun Ding is an Application Engineer in Thermofisher’s Beijing office. His practice focuses on a diverse range of proteomics matters, including scientific and medical proteomics research, biopharm, and large molecular related food safety. Before joining Thermofisher, he has worked in Proteomics Faculty of National institute of Biological Science, Beijing(NIBS) for seven years. During that time, he finished more than twenty papers with his coworkers, and built rich experience in proteomics research.
