Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has revolutionized our understanding of biological phenomena and human disease by enabling analyses of gene expression, gene regulation, and genetic variation at unprecedented scales.  In this seminar, we will review some of the difficulties posed by common NGS applications, including single-cell transcriptomics, analysis of small noncoding RNAs, profiling immune repertoire diversity, and analysis of RNA from degraded samples.  We will take you on a tour of these technologies and applications with a strong focus on challenging samples, and highlight novel solutions developed that address the needs of the life sciences research community and enable researchers to focus more time and energy on the biological questions that truly interest them.


Dr Nathalie Bolduc is a Scientist at Clontech and has been developing cutting edge tools for next-gen sequencing.  She has a Masters and PhD degrees in Biochemistry from the Universit√© Laval, Canada.  She worked as a post-doctoral research fellow and subsequently as a Researcher at UC Berkeley.  She also held a Researcher of Molecular Biology position at the USDA-ARS.  Since then she has been a scientist at Clontech Laboratories, Inc.
