Abstract:
Interests in single cell gene expression profiling has risen over the recent years with evidence of heterogeneity within cell population. The emergence of digital droplet technology allows researchers to apply emulsion-based UMI barcoding strategy for single cells with minimal hands-on time. This facilitates cell pooling for downstream sequencing and thus lower the cost for library preparation. Extremely high sensitivity digital droplet PCR instrument is a powerful tool for pre-sequencing library quantification and post-sequencing targets validation. With exceptional sensitivity and precision, it surpasses the performance of previous digital PCR and real-time PCR. For protein expression assessment, Western blotting is a widely used powerful technique. However, using housekeeping protein as reference would be problematic in the study of cell heterogeneity. The Stain-Free Gel technology introduces a new practice that offers quality controls and total protein loading control for Western blot to improve results without increasing workload.

About theSpeaker:
Jack Zhu is the Field Application Specialist for Life Science Group of Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. He obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with first class honor. After graduation, he stayed in HKUST as a lab manager and involved in various research projects set up. He has been working on RNA-seq extensively, including single cell RNA-seq. Besides, he is also very experienced in protein works.
